IHR Campaign: Shaping New Zealand's Health Future

JOIN US IN OUR TWO-PART LOBBY CAMPAIGN

We're excited to share that we've hit a significant milestone in our mission! Part one of our campaign has been a success: we've met the crucial December 1st deadline. Thanks to our collective efforts, the new coalition government has agreed to reconsider the proposed amendments by rejecting the 1st of December deadline. This is a big win, and it's all thanks to supporters like you!

But our journey doesn't stop here. We're gearing up for the second pha

Note: any support to the below campaign will be used towards the second part of this lobby.

WHY YOUR VOICE MATTERS NOW MORE THAN EVER

The clock is ticking! By the 1st of December, 2023, our new government faces a pivotal decision: to accept or reconsider the timing of the implementation of over 300 proposed amendments to the International Health Regulations of 2005 (IHR 2005). These changes are set to kick in by May 2024, and here's the catch – it could happen without any public consultation. This isn't just about policy changes; it's about shaping the future of our nation's health and prosperity.

The Heart of the Matter: At first glance, changes to Article 59 of the IHR 2005 might seem minor, but they carry significant weight. These amendments redefine how New Zealand collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO) in critical decision-making. Staying silent now could mean a default agreement to these changes – a decision that's irreversible and far-reaching.

What's at Stake for New Zealand:

  1. Our Own Choices: The proposed changes might let the WHO have a big say in how we handle health crises in the future. We're all for working with others, but we don't want to lose our power to make our own decisions.

  2. Economic Impact: Remember the lockdowns? They cost our economy an astounding $440 million weekly, hitting small businesses especially hard. We can't afford to make such decisions lightly or without a thorough understanding and preparation.

  3. Public Awareness: If this is such a big deal, why isn't it common knowledge? Exactly our point. We need to ensure our government fully comprehends the implications of these amendments for all New Zealanders. Especially for an outside organisation that wouldn't know the difference between Oamaru and Onehunga

Our Campaign Goals:

  1. Government Accountability: Urge the coalition government to defer acceptance of WHO changes until they're fully informed and prepared.

  2. Legal Insight: Seek independent legal advice to understand how these changes might impact our sovereignty in health policy and beyond.

  3. Economic Analysis: Demand a Comprehensive Economic Impact Analysis (EIA) before any agreements, focusing on the potential effects on our economy and small business sector.

  4. Understanding the World Bank Pandemic Fund: Investigate the details and implications of the pandemic fund being offered to New Zealand. We need to know what it means for us, particularly the financial commitments involved.

Your Support Makes a Difference! This isn't just policy-making; it's about safeguarding our future and ensuring that every decision is made transparently and with the public's best interest at heart. Your support for this campaign will help us advocate for a proactive, informed government that prioritises the well-being of New Zealanders.

Join us in building a collective vision for New Zealand's future. Your voice counts!

Petition ACCEPTED

We've been watching the signatures piling up since this petition was submitted and it's pretty clear these proposed changes could throw some serious curveballs our way.

That's why we've accepted to take on this Lobby for Good campaign.
